Plan Your Trip in Focused Sessions (With Wandering Hermit + Foci)
Trip planning looks fun until you open seventeen browser tabs, compare flights for two hours, and still have not booked anything. The problem is rarely the itinerary — it is sustained focus on boring but essential tasks.
This guide pairs two free tools from our product family:
- Wandering Hermit — AI trip planner plus curated day-by-day guides for Europe and Asia
- Foci — Pomodoro timer, tasks, Smart Plan, and a Trip Planning task template
Plan the route on Wandering Hermit. Execute the prep in focused sessions on Foci.
Step 1: Build your itinerary on Wandering Hermit
Start at wanderinghermit.com:
- Enter your destinations and trip length (up to 14 days).
- Generate a custom AI itinerary or browse a curated guide (France, Japan, Portugal, Spain & Portugal, and more).
- Email the plan to yourself or keep it open in a tab.
You now have the what — days, cities, and activities. Foci handles the when you actually do the work.
Step 2: Load tasks into Foci
Open Foci and choose one of three paths:
Option A — Trip Planning template (fastest)
- Open the task panel menu → Templates.
- Select Trip Planning ✈️.
- Foci creates nine pre-built tasks (visa research, flights, hotels, itinerary review, etc.).
Option B — Import CSV from Wandering Hermit
On any Wandering Hermit itinerary page or after generating an AI plan, click Download planning tasks (CSV). Then in Foci:
- Settings → Import & Export Tasks
- Upload the CSV
- Tasks appear with titles like “Review itinerary — Day 3: Kyoto temples”
Option C — Manual list
Add tasks yourself: one Pomodoro per booking decision beats an unstructured “plan trip tonight” block.
Step 3: Run Pomodoro sessions on real work
Assign one task per focus block:
| Task | Suggested timer | |------|-----------------| | Compare flights | Classic Pomodoro (25 min) | | Review full itinerary | Deep Work (50 min) | | Book hotels for 3 cities | 2–3 Pomodoros | | Print cheat sheet / insurance | Short Sprint (15 min) |
Select a task in Foci, turn on brown noise or lo-fi if it helps, and press Start. When the timer ends, take the break — then pick the next booking task.
Use Smart Plan if tasks have due dates: Foci schedules them across the days before departure.
Why this pairing works
- Wandering Hermit reduces decision fatigue on where to go and what to do each day.
- Foci reduces decision fatigue on when to do the admin — flights, insurance, reservations.
- Together they separate creative planning from execution, which is how most people actually finish trip prep.
