Editorial policy

Foci publishes practical guides about focus, time management, and task management. This page explains who writes them, how we research and test them, how we handle corrections, and how we disclose that Foci is our own product.

Who writes Foci's guides

Guides are written and maintained by the Foci Editorial Team — the people who build and use Foci. We are a small product team, not a network of anonymous guest contributors. Every article is published under the Foci name, and the team is accountable for what it says.

We use AI tools for editing, outlining, and research assistance. We do not publish AI output without a person checking the claims, testing the workflow where possible, and editing the result. If an article relies on a study or a competitor's published details, we link to the source or name it in the text.

How we research

We start with the work itself: opening Foci, creating a project, importing a real task list, running a timed session, and checking what happens when the plan changes. For competitor comparisons, we read the vendor's current pricing and feature documentation, try the free tier where one exists, and note the date we checked the details.

For research claims about focus, noise, or habit formation, we prefer primary studies and established publications over summaries. We avoid inventing statistics, testimonials, or test results. When a claim is uncertain or depends on the person, we say so.

How we test Foci

Foci is a browser app, so we test the same paths a reader will use:

  • Guest mode first — no account, local data, and the first-win onboarding.
  • Signed-in sync across two devices, including a task edit and a session log.
  • Import files from Google Tasks, Todoist, Asana, Notion, and generic CSV.
  • Timer presets, pause/resume, inactive auto-pause, and completion logging.
  • Smart Plan with overdue work, multi-session tasks, and a day that will not fit.
  • Installable PWA and offline behavior for the parts that are meant to work offline.

We note where a competing app is stronger. A comparison that only concludes “Foci wins” is not useful to a reader, and we try not to publish one.

Ownership and disclosures

Foci is our own product. Comparison, roundup, and migration articles say so at the top, and the About page identifies the product and the team. Partner promotions elsewhere on the site are labeled Sponsored, use rel="sponsored", and never appear inside the focus workspace at /app.

Display advertising, when enabled, appears only on public marketing and blog pages. It never appears in the workspace, and it is loaded only after the consent choices described in the Privacy Policy.

Updates, corrections, and freshness

Each guide shows a published date and, when it has changed meaningfully, an updated date. We bump the updated date only when the content changes — not for metadata or layout edits. We keep a content registry internally so fast-moving topics and competitor prices get reviewed on a schedule.

If you find an error, an outdated price, or a claim you think is wrong, email hello@usefoci.com or use the contact page. We read corrections, update the article when warranted, and note substantive changes.
